The aims of The Smoking Cabinet:
- to exhibit early, cabaret / burlesque themed cinema
- to host cross media, insightful screenings talks and events on the subject of cabaret/burlesque
- to introduce and allow access to early cinema - defined as have being made between some time between the Belle Époque and Weimar Germany (1895 - 1933) - to audiences previously either unaware of this period of cinema history or unable to access it for viewing.
- to produce a film festival incorporating screenings, live performances, club nights and talks to celebrate this unique aspect of cinematic history.
- beneficiaries will be the general public both with and without an established interest in the moving image; and film fans who want to access rarely screened cinema
- the Smoking Cabinet and its associated festival is a not for profit organisation, all staff are volunteers.
